In our consultation, we will discuss an evaluation of your overall health, perform a physical examination, take photographs for your medical record, and discuss risks and potential complications of body contouring surgery. We will also review before and after photos of other patients who have undergone similar surgeries.
The Procedure
I perform my body contouring in our surgery center or at many local hospitals under general anesthesia in combination with local anesthetics. Patients that have lost a large amount of weight require pre-operative workup with labs to assess nutritional parameters and review blood counts prior to moving forward with surgery. These procedures are performed as an outpatient or with a short overnight hospital stay to ensure patient safety.
The Body Contouring/Massive Weight Loss Surgery Recovery Process
After the body contouring procedure, bandages and dressings will be applied to the incisions to aid in the recovery process. Small drains may be placed to prevent fluid buildup in the affected areas.
Medications and instructions will be provided to the patient. The patient will experience temporary minor bruising and swelling. Post-surgical garments must be worn to control swelling.
The patient may require assistance during the first few days of the recovery period. They will be prohibited from performing strenuous physical activities for several weeks.
A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to check on the healing progress of the patient and evaluate the initial results of the surgery. The level of physical activity allowed after this procedure may be expanded based on the degree of healing.
